IN STATE NEWS,
A bill for roadside drug testing passed both the assembly and senate in Wisconsin on Thursday. The bill is currently waiting on the governor to sign it into law. The bill would allow police to use oral fluid testing to detect any controlled substances. The tests still could not be used as evidence in court. Lab testing is still required to prosecute in court but new technology would give more cause for arrests. The Dane County Sheriff supports the legislation saying that it is needed because of a rise in impaired drivers. One of the co-authors of the bill said "Signing this bill sends a strong message to our community members back at home that we are taking one more step in the right direction to keep our roads safe from people who drive under the influence". Governor Evers has not spoken on his plans for the bill.

IN NATIONAL NEWS,
Instagram said on Thursday that it will send alerts to parents if their kids repeatedly search for words related to suicide. Alerts will only go out to parents part of Instagram’s parental supervision program. Instagram says it’s already been blocking content from teen’s accounts and search results by adding helpline popups instead. Currently, Meta is facing two trials over their platforms' harm to children. One trial is in Los Angeles looking at whether Meta’s platforms are knowingly addictive and harmful to minors. The other trial is in New Mexico and hopes to figure out if Meta knowingly failed to protect kids from sexual exploitation. Meta’s executive staff and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who recently testified, disputed the claims of addiction. The alerts for parents will be sent through email, text or Whatsapp and directly through the Instagram page. Meta said in a blog post that “Our goal is to empower parents to step in if their teen's searches suggest they may need support,”
