IN THE NEWS TODAY,
IN STATE NEWS,
Ryan Strnad drops out of Wisconsin Governor race and endorses David Crowley. Strnad is a beer vendor in the Milwaukee area who ran to give working class families representation. He dropped out and said, Quote "My campaign is ending, but the work continues. David Crowley is ready to guide Wisconsin forward, and I am proud to stand with him" End-Quote. This leaves seven democratic candidates in the primary and two republicans. Strnad had campaigned on improving quality of life for the working class, protecting the environment, and made some headlines in October when he proposed allowing alcohol sales at high school sporting events as a means of raising revenue for Wisconsin’s schools. The Democratic gubernatorial field could soon grow again with former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes expressing interest in running for the office.
ALSO IN STATE NEWS,
Police authorities find Morgan Geyser, the 23-year-old who had stabbed her friend 19 times to appease the fictional slender man back in 2014, this past Sunday after she cut off her monitoring bracelet and escaped her group home in Wisconsin. Geyser was more than 165 miles away when she was caught in Posen, Illinois. She wasn’t alone though, as Geyser traveled with 43-year-old Chad Mecca, as they had been in contact while Geyser was living in the group home. Both were then taken into custody, with Mecca being released on a citation soon after. Waukesha County District Attorney Lesli Boese, whose office originally prosecuted Geyser in 2014, now pushes the State Department of Health Services to revoke Geyser's conditional release that she was granted in September, saying at a news conference, Quote “we fully support that motion” End Quote.
IN NATIONAL NEWS,
The FBI is trying to schedule interviews with the six democratic lawmakers who said that service members should disobey illegal orders. The six – Sens. Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin, and Reps. Chrissy Houlahan, Chris Deluzio, Jason Crow and Maggie Goodlander were attacked by President Trump. He responded by saying that they engaged in seditious behavior and should be put to death. The FBI first reached out to the US Capitol Police about contacting the six offices, who directed the agency to the Senate and House sergeant-at-arms. It marks an escalation from the Trump administration, which has painted the quote “illegal orders” video as a dangerous undermining of the president’s authority. Earlier this week, the Pentagon announced it will investigate Kelly, a retired US Navy Captain, for misconduct, and warned it may even recall him to active duty to face a court martial or administrative punishment for his part in the video. Although the video released by the Democratic lawmakers didn’t reference what orders service members might be receiving that would potentially be illegal, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have raised concerns repeatedly about the legality of US military strikes against suspected drug boats in the Caribbean and the US military’s deployment to cities over the protest of governors.
IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS,
Four more people arrested in France over the Louvre heist. Two men, aged 38 and 39, and two women, aged 31 and 40, all from the Paris region, were detained by police as part of the investigation into the heist, according to a statement from Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau. The new suspects join four other suspects detained in late October who will be questioned by investigators, said the prosecutor – who has not yet released further details about possible charges. It is suspected that one of the new arrests was the fourth member of the people that actually carried out the Louvre heists. Three of the earlier suspects have been charged with organized robbery and the fourth being complicit in organized robbery. The thieves raided the Apollo Gallery on the Louvre’s upper floor, which houses the French crown jewels, on October 19. They used a truck-mounted ladder to gain access to the gallery, one of the most ornate rooms in the museum, through a window. They broke into two high-security display cases and made off with nine items, including a diamond and sapphire jewelry set worn by Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense.
